Mark holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Valuation & Farm Management) from Lincoln University. He began his valuation career in 1984 in the Gisborne office of Valuation New Zealand where he was involved in all aspects of rural valuation throughout the district. In 1989 he moved to Tauranga and held the position of Rating Valuation Manager for Quotable Value from 1999 to 2004.
Mark became a founding co-director of Landmass Technology in 2004 and combined with his management roles in the rating valuation field, has had responsibility for the delivery of over 30 local authority revaluations since 1999. Mark was a co-director with Garth Laing until 2015 when the business was acquired by Opteon.
Mark has experience in all aspects of rural valuation in New Zealand from the valuation of extensive dairy conversion land in the Waikato to being recognised as an expert in the valuation of all classes of rural property, including forestry. He has been expert witness for the councils on many Land Valuation Tribunal hearings. This includes cases of national importance involving Maori land and forestry. His specialist skills in applying practical valuation knowledge to database valuation techniques is well proven.
Mark has a detailed understanding of the Land Information New Zealand audit requirements and was a member of the expert committee that reviewed the 2008 Rating Valuation Rules in New Zealand.
