What are we looking for.
The Technical Lead is a developer who is responsible for leading a development project team. The Technical Lead will be proficient at the balancing act of managing technical processes and teams along with using your technical skills to provide the necessary environment for project success. The job of a Technical Lead is highly complex and requires efficiency in both technical as well as management skills.
The roles and responsibilities of the Technical Lead encompass several functions right from planning, scheduling, estimating development, leading technical teams, providing technical expertise, managing client requirements and solving technical problems but remain hands-on with code.
The role of Technical Lead requires effective communication skills and the ability to manage people efficiently. You will effectively lead your team and inspire them to achieve goals through innovation, quality and excellence.You will help the development team to start thinking of the bigger picture, as well provide the technical direction and leadership to the development team throughout the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC).You work to resolve technical disputes, and are watchful of technical decisions that have long-term consequences.
You will also work closely with Head of Architecture & Solutions Development and Director Platforms to define technical options and agree on solutions for future streams of work. The Technical Lead sits with developers and using your leadership skills will build an ideal work environment to guide the team to achieve team and business goals.
Technically you will work with the team to establish and validate their understanding of architecture. A suitable amount of standardisation helps productivity. Too much standardisation kills innovation. You will establish a common understanding of what the team is aiming for, and make adjustments as the team learns about the problem and the technology chosen to solve it.
Effectively lead teams and inspire others to achieve goals through innovation, quality and excellence
Support existing delivery excellence initiatives including estimating, methodology and technology accelerators
Ensure teams follow the correct procedures, policies and documentation requirements across project phases
Guide the team through the development, testing and implementation stages and review the completed work effectively
Provide direction and technical expertise in design, development and systems integration
Make quick decisions and solve technical problems to provide an efficient environment for implementation
Provide technical training to teams when required and serve as a technical mentor to team members
Stay current and provide and abreast of technology and innovation and provide direction and vision to the team
Qualifications and Experience
Tertiary qualification in a computer science/engineering or information systems and/or equivalent experience:
Ideally 7+ years of professional experience, of which at least 5 years related IT consulting and/or Business experience and 2 years direct people management experience
Broad experience and understanding of the technology industry and some other industries (e.g. banking, public service), acquired in a consulting role and/or managing technology-enabled business change or related activities
Solid understanding of IT strategy and principled approach to broad architectural challenges and opportunities
